SPAGHETTI W/ MEAT SAUCE

GROCERY LIST:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 cup yellow onion (diced)
  • 1/2 green pepper (diced)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste if needed)
  • Crushed Red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • 28oz Whole San Marzano tomatoes
  • 8 oz can Muir Glen tomato sauce
  • A few leaves of fresh basil (whole)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 3/4 tsp fine sea salt (more/less to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper (more/less to taste)
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb mild Italian sausage
  • Freshly grated Parmesan
  • Spaghetti Noodles

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Add butter and olive oil to a pot on medium heat and combine
  • Sauté Green Pepper,  and half the onion & garlic
  • Add ground beef, mild Italian sausage
    • Cook until brown, strain and set aside
  • Sauté remaning onion and garlic with olive oil
  • When the onions start to turn and the garlic becomes fragrant, add crushed red pepper flakes to taste and cook for an additional minute
  • Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil leaves, and all seasonings
  • Simmer for 10 minutes. Break down tomatoes. 
  • Add meat and 8oz tomato sauce to the sauce
  • Incorporate the meat to the sauce, then simmer for at least 20 minutes. The longer the better.
  • Remove basil leaves (if whole), then serve over spaghetti noodles with freshly grated Parmesan.
