GROCERY LIST:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/3 cup yellow onion (diced)
- 1/2 green pepper (diced)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- Salt and pepper (to taste if needed)
- Crushed Red pepper flakes (to taste)
- 28oz Whole San Marzano tomatoes
- 8 oz can Muir Glen tomato sauce
- A few leaves of fresh basil (whole)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 3/4 tsp fine sea salt (more/less to taste)
- 1/2 tsp crushed black pepper (more/less to taste)
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb mild Italian sausage
- Freshly grated Parmesan
- Spaghetti Noodles
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add butter and olive oil to a pot on medium heat and combine
- Sauté Green Pepper, and half the onion & garlic
- Add ground beef, mild Italian sausage
- Cook until brown, strain and set aside
- Sauté remaning onion and garlic with olive oil
- When the onions start to turn and the garlic becomes fragrant, add crushed red pepper flakes to taste and cook for an additional minute
- Add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil leaves, and all seasonings
- Simmer for 10 minutes. Break down tomatoes.
- Add meat and 8oz tomato sauce to the sauce
- Incorporate the meat to the sauce, then simmer for at least 20 minutes. The longer the better.
- Remove basil leaves (if whole), then serve over spaghetti noodles with freshly grated Parmesan.
