PARKWAY BAKERY

Parkway Bakery in New Orleans is the home to the original Po-Boy, and boy was it good. The Poor Boy sandwich was created in 1929, but Parkway has been a New Orleans cornerstone since 1911.

Parked on the corner of Hagan and Toulouse in the Bayou St. John neighborhood, this place is filled with history.

An old school order window, loud microphone yelling out names, and absolutely SLINGING out sandwiches.

I got the original shrimp po’boy, and Luke got the creole version. These things have an actual small mountain of shrimp on them, and the bread is to die for. A half sandwich and a side of fries is enough to leave you loosening your belt, but the full size is an entirely different beast. If anyone reads actually reads this, and can go full clean-plate-club on a full sizer, I’ll pay for it (limit one person).

This is an awesome lunch spot that embodies the city perfectly. Definitely a stop, especially if you have a car to drive over there.
